Best run in 5 years for our crew, The Moosecrew! 6 of us made the voyage from Half Moon to Bloomfield. Lopez, from this board was my partner and co-owner of our Penob 17' Royalex.
We had a few Disco 169's a Penob 164 and a Penob 17. It was the maiden voyage for our Penob 17 and she performed like a champ.
Starting out from Half Moon we hit first night camp at McKiels Camps after near 3 hours of float. The Narrows was alot of fun. We swamped and tipped on the Narrows last yr after being a bit c0cky lol.
From McKiels we pushed onto the Rangers Camp which took about 45 min. Great stay at the camp. We had initially intended on two nights at Rangers Camp but some lads pushed out ahead of us at Half Moon and had the same mission. So instead of crashing their party we took to McKiels after confirming with the lads they were just in for one night. You cleaned up the camp well lads...well done. We had a blast and left it in the same shape. I also repaired a few broken windows to keep the skeeters out.
Then on Saturday we pushed on to Clearwater which took us about 2.5 hrs. Little Burnt hill was more fun than Burnt Hill. We've been finding Burnt Hill less exciting as the years go by. Mind you one of our crew put a nice gouge in his Penob 164 on a sneaky rock on the right. He was solo and id say if he had been ridding tandem he would have flipped. As for the damage...nothing a plastic welder cant blend back smooth. Thankfully our new Penob 17 Royalex barely suffered a scratch.
On Sunday we pushed out from Clearwater and after 3.5 hrs of paddling we landed at the Bloomfield pull out.
Fantastic weekend. Water and weather were perfect and barely any bugs. Bugs only made their presence known at Clearwater.
Water was at 2.025 our entire trip. Allows you to slip over most sneaky boulders you think are gonna grab you. We averaged 7km/hr and hit our highest speed of 15km/hr just past slate island through some deep quick water. I tracked the whole trip in my Garmin Montana 650. If u need some coords just drop me a note.
Spent all 3 nights in my Hennessy Hammock Deep Jungle XL. Cant say enough. Boys froze Thursday night but i was comfortable and well rested after each night. Better sleeps than my bed at home for sure.
Cant wait to do it again!! Thinking of a 2 night June run now !!
