Water level and weather forecast seem perfectly aligned for a two nighter on the Miramichi. But I'd prefer to avoid the big crowd that I'm guessing will be on the river this weekend
Was thinking I'd leave late on Saturday and paddle for a couple hours ... do the bulk of the river on Sunday.
Think that would give the majority of the "crowd" enough of a head start?

There is a great camp site that we use to use at Big Louise, river right. It's maybe an hour in, we now paddle down to another great site at Sandbar, It's not too far down either 3 - 4 hrs i think but it is on the backside of a 90 bend in the river so you kinda have to look for it.

Sandbar site sounds interesting. What side of the river?
Not sure I'm familiar with "Sandbar". Any river features to identify it?

I believe "sandbar" is indicated on the map but cannot remember. I think there is an actual sandbar in the river there if I recall correctly and the site should be just around the corner. Site itself is on river left just around a left turn in the river. Its up on a bank, lengthy site full of pine trees. The Narrows are just a short paddle down river. Jamie

Very nice looking site; I shall try to find it. Thanks! :-)
Curious ... what map do you use for the river that show the sites?
I have a bit of a map-fetish and would track down anything that exists.

We just use the standard SNB river map. It does not actually show the campsites. Most are just named after geographical info printed on the map... I assume "sandbar" is printed on the map somewhere since that's what we call it.
I think it might be just past and opposite Otter Brook, not positive but by looking at the GeoNB map it looks like the spot.

that is McKiel Pond campsite,, about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile below Otter brook on the opposite side (river left) ,,, when I first camped there you could see the old base logs from the cabins that were there before they disassembled and floated them down to the present site at Mckiel Brook,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
