Hi,
I was planning on getting some friends together for long weekend in October to paddle the Restigouche. I know it's a while away, but it takes a little planning... Anyways, I was just wondering if someone knew whether it's a good time to do this and whether there is still a shuttle service that operates that time of year around there?

Whether it is a good time or not depends on water levels. If we have a dry fall, the river will be low, and your trip would not be too enjoyable because you would be rubbing and dragging a lot.
One plus is that there wouldn't be the hoards of drunken lunatics that you get in the summer, one of the reasons I haven't run the Restigouche in about 8 years, despite living in the area. One thing to consider while running in the fall is that while the campsites are all still set up, there probably won't be any firewood available, so you might want to bring some with you.
I highly recommend the Upsalquitch that time of year. You can't beat the scenery in either river though.
Mr. Arpin does run a shuttle service, but not sure if he is open that late in the fall. I believe he has a website as well.
