Anyone out poling this summer? I've been out practising poling up the nashwaak the last few weekends. It's good exercise and a rewarding way to travel the river. Jamie and I poled 6 or 7 kms up the towards Taymouth a few weekends ago...3 hrs up and 30 mins down. I've never really tryed poling much before this summer and I can't see me giving it up anytime soon. Mitchell

I did everything I could to show Mitchell what Not to do with a pole in a canoe.... I have now retired my pole, the novelty has worn off just like the skin on my shins. Jamie 292-1421 St.Croix this weekend (Sunday/Monday) NO POLE

I tried poling up the Keswick this spring. I found my spruce pole was too sproingy, and it bent like a q-tip when I tried to push up a rip. I need to get a pole with harder wood. I'll never go aluminum, though.

I too just have a spruce pole but I haven't found it to be too springy yet. I don't think I could use the aluminum either...too noisy. Although I did put a copper end and bolt on the end of my pole, which I've found is noticably louder now than before. But I do get a great grip on the bottom of the river now.
