Anyone familiar with the St. Croix have any info on Gleason Point? I took a drive out there yesterday. You can get within a 100m of the water on route 735 (I think) and then it looks like private property. It is not marked as private property, but there is only a small trail that leads to a old cabin on the water. The only sign on the trail says "no swimming after July 19" I was hoping to do a two day trip and take out at this point. I was going to look at Clark Point too but the road was too treacherous for my car. I know Loon Bay is an easy access point but I'd like to have a look at those class 3 rapids after canoose.

the rapid may dissapoint you a bit. its basicaly a one ledge drop that is not very dificult, even in high water. you should scout it along the portage trail(on your left) and run it close to the shore. the river is surprisingly wide here, the far side is also doable but not easily scoutable. there is a nice camp at the end of the portage ,good spot for a beer and to take shots of your buddies running (or swiming) over the ledge.not sure about gleason pt. access, last time we went that far we got out at grand falls.we did that on a long weekend, the days were not long and we took our time.
