Anyone planning to paddle this stream this spring? It looks like you can put in on the north branch and take the better part of the day to come out on the Saint John at Hartland.
Can anyone tell me what it's like? I'd be interested in driving up from Fredericton for this one.

It's been quite a few years ... but I definitely remember that there is 1/2 km section between Cold Stream and Hartland that is quite "fun". In fact, I think local paddlers have given one of the hair-pin turns a colourful name like "Hell's Eddie" or "Hell's Gate" or something like that. This little run has quite a few ledge shelves with at least one (see above) turn that has the full flow of the river running straight into a rock face and then doing a 100 degree turn to the left. I've only been on this river when the water was high. I remember it being a lot of fun. You'll hardly see a man-made structure ... spending most of the time in some gorgeous Carelton County canyons.

Where is the Pole Hill bridge? Is it the bridge where the North and South branches meet? looks like it on the Canadian atlas.
Stormdale? Is that the mouth at the Saint John? Can you use names of places on the Maps, please?

I scouted this stream a few years back and have been wanting to canoe it since. I also live fairly close to it now. Let me know if you decide to run sometime...maybe this fall. I almost ran it back in June but things didn't work out.

I am not sure what everyones plan is for Thanksgiving Monday but we have out family dinner on Sunday. I am thinking of running the Becaguimec on Monday if anyone else is interested. With all the rain today and saturday this stream should be high enough. Let me know.

Mitchell,
I am interested as well. If I were to come along with my car and boat would accommodating vehicle ferrying be possible?
Cheers,

Dino - Mike and Hugh can't make it this weekend.
Rob - I can bring the trailer so we should have room.
If we don't get much rain tomorrow I will take a run up tomorrow night to make sure there is enough water.

Anyone know if there is enough water to do this run now? I've done it before in high water it was a great easy paddle....only one hair pin turn that I remember and yes it does turn into a rock ledge, but none of our group had any problems with it and I wouldn't call us experienced...drunk is more like it. Run took a good 4 hours and we came out in Heartland and paddled down to the park off the Saint John and took out there....just on the other side of the covered bridge.

I grew up in Hartland and I know this river better than any other. I set in once at the Ellis Covered Bridge off the Howard Brook road (near Carlisle). Got knocked into the water by fallen tree. North Branch is narrow with sweepers, but plenty of water in rainy times. Below the forks is open water. Pole Hill bridge (Cloverdale) is great access as is the Stormdale Bridge lower down. Never rode the south branch, generally smaller than the north. The lower section of the river is all kinds of fun in high water, the higher the better. Serious hairpins and subduction currents. Spray skirt reccomended lol. The guimac is all but impassable in the summer months except in the offhand chance of a gully washer and you catch the wave so to speak. Best time to go is the first half of april. Trout fishing is awesome on north branch, esp higher up beyond the end of the howard brook road. Several waterfalls up in there.
