Kyle, Riveraddict, Andrew from NS and I just finished an 8 day trip in the Tobeatic in NS. We started on April 6th at Fourth Lake Dam and portaged and paddled through a few lakes to get to the headwaters of the Shelburne River. We ended the trip at Low Landing in Lake Rossignol. The first few days were a lot of work but well worth it. The incredible thing was we never heard a single motorized vehicle or met another person for the entire trip. It is about as remote as you can get around here. I'll post some pics and some great dehyrdrated recipes when I get a chance.

Kyle brought along some great recipes like spaghetti (1 lb 12 oz)and shepherds pie (1 lb 5 oz). All the ingredients were dehydrated and the recipes were doubled. I'll let him describe how he did it, but it was really quite easy and very good after a hard day of portaging.
Riveraddict brought some great meals too like bean supreme and curry chicken. I don't have the recipes for these but I did dehyrdrate chicken for the recipe. Canned chicken works best for dehdrating and rehydrated very well.
Some easier recipes are tuna or hamburger helper with dehydrated meat. Tuna dehydrated quite well too but I would probably just do chicken instead of tuna from now on. Double portion weighed 1lb 8 oz. Hummus rehydrated well for lunch snacks. I dehydrated about 8 lbs of venison for about 2 lbs of jerky which made nice snacks on the trail. Another meal that rehydrated very well was burrito mix. Simply use your favorite burrito mix and dehydrate. Kyle brought along a reflector oven which isn't necessary but sure was nice to have. Pizza is a favorite in the oven using pita breads and dehdrated pizza sauce and vegatables.
We never had a bad meal the whole trip.

the shaghetti is easy to do. dehydrate 1lbs burger, half pack mushrooms, half a green pepper, freeze dried onion and garlic (could use garlic powder.at sobey's you can buy a powderd spaghetti mix, i use this with the recomended can of tomatoe paste(which i dehydrate). soak the beef and vegies for 15 or 20 min in hot water. combine the paste with enough hot water to make a paste again, combine rest of ingredients and your done. serve over noodles. this serves 2 .next time i'm going to dehydrate a large can of tomatoes and go from there. the shepards pie ( also from a powdered mix from sobey's) 1 lbs dehydrated burger 2 cups mixed frozen vegatables, thawed out and dehydrated. rehydrate dried stuff 20 min in hot water, mix in powder and water as per instuctions cover with instant potatoes and bake in reflector oven for 15 to 20 min.also feeds 2. the burger rehydrates very well. i tried both these recipes out at home first and was surprised how well the beef rehydrated

next time i'm experimenting with dehydrating mitchells beer. oh well at least he shared when i ran out. tasted pretty sweet at the end of the last big portage, when the sun came out for that half hour.

nice place. not anywhere else like it so close. you can be out for days or weeks and not see a sole, depending on time of year. might be back again soon.
