Has anybody here ever paddled the Palfrey Stream from Skiff Lake (or Grassy Lake) down to Palfrey Lake? I am considering running this stream in early June (Ken put the idea in my head) and would appreciate any advice. I have explored the stream a bit with the ATV and maps and it appears to have long stretches of deadwater created by old logging dams and beaver dams. My Grandfather told me that it used to be run back in the day. It looks doable. Take it easy, Tom

It looks like there's a drop coming out of Skiff Lake. I spoke to some gents twenty years ago who said they had it run it another twenty years ago! from Grassy Lake though. The exit from Grassy Lake is called Grassy Rips on the old topos, go figure.
I know there's a stretch above Palfrey called the Long Sluice. I've tented at the mouth of Palfrey and it looked big enough to paddle there.
Keep me posted, I'd enjoy this one, it's been eating at me. Looks like a good day trip.

Hey Ken, I've noticed that apparent drop on the maps also. I've spoken to some residents of Skiff Lake who have run it in the past. They say it is doable but that there are a lot of old logging and beaver dams to be lifted over. I chose Skiff Lake as the starting point because it is more accessible (my Uncle has a cottage there). The stretch from Skiff Lake to the Palfrey Stream proper looks quite small. I might have to do a little wading.
Anyhow if I run it I'll submit a trip report and some pictures.
It's fun to do streams that hardly anyone else has done. Take it easy, Tom
