The cane seat in my Ogilvy 16 needs new cane, but I can't find any in town. I know there is a supplier in Niagara Falls, but they only sell by the bale.
I don't want to use strapping, because I'd have to drill and staple. Can anyone help me find some cane?

Ken,
Meredith and I were driving recently out along Harvey Lake on the way back from Little Maquadavic and saw a fella working on his stripper. We turned around and pulled in to look it over. He was caning his seats at the time. I remember the same deal having to order it from Niagra so I asked him where he got his cane and he got it from a place in Waterville Valley, Maine.
2nd or 3rd wkd in October we're taking another trip down to NH to pick up a few more things from the house and another truck I have down there. I'll be picking up some cane from them at that point in time for my ogilvy and prospector so let me know if you want some.
or contact:
Yardgoods Center, 60 West Concourse, Waterville, ME; 207-872-5403; vlodek@yardgoods.com
widths vary based on a clever system that classifies the cane in 6 categories from 'narrow' to 'wide'. If you know what width you want then you can tell them or match it up on site with a sample. They were not sure of the quantity in a 'box' when I called. They could only say that a box does 1 1/2 to 2 seats depending on the size of the seats. It is 20-27$ for a box depending on weight (aka width).
I've also got a video that shows a few different ways to cane canoe seats in particular. It focuses on the Chestnut method which was specific to the company, but shows other patterns of caning as well. Let me know if you want that and I can drop it off with you.
