Hello friends, A friend and I ran the Cains from the Grand Lake Rd (123 Highway) bridge down to the municipal park in Blackville. The gauge in Blackville was at 1.36 on the first day and dropped to 1.2 on the second. Plenty of water, I don't think we scrapped once. Lots of trout too! Camped just below the mouth of the Sabbies river. There was lots of garbage on the site, we tried our best to clean it up a bit, but wow. You can read the expanded version here if you so desire: maritimeoutofdoors.wordpress.com/2014/06/25/in-pursuit-of-the-brook-trout-a-cains-river-canoe-trip/Ran it mostly based on information I found on this site, so thank you for the site! Had a great time! All the best!

This is perhaps a rather embarrassing question, but did the the hydrometric folks happen to remove this station from the website? I can't seem to find it.

There's a chance we're going to try it out this weekend on a bachelor party. If that's doesn't work out (some of these guys arn't paddling enthusiasts like myself)then I hope to make in on August 8. Fingers crossed!

Hey jreffers, unfortunately my summer has been over booked with weddings (not to mention normal life) and I have still not had the chance to make the Cains. I'm now hoping to make it sometime in September. Best of luck! Let me know how you make out.

2 times I went with my buddies from the Bridge on the 123 to Salmon Brook Pool. Each of those trips were great 5 days each. In 2014 we were faced with wet cold weather and had one heck of a ice pellet storm. On the last night of the trip bears woke us up braking trees. I though it may have been bigfoot but the guys resided to the fact that it was an old bear with no teeth and dull claws. We also seen a moose.
Another time I did the trip with my sister and went right to the mouth near Howard.
It is not the most exciting river but a great river just to relax and enjoy a few beers and do a 5 day trip with my buddies of 25 years. It doesn't get any better.
It is funny to be talking about a river tripping when we are in the middle of a winter's storm.

Little late, but thanks for the comment, Ray. 5-days on the Cains would be fantastic. I like your bear story -- if it were me, I'd also suggest that it could have been a cougar making all that racket haha. I love the Cains, there's something magical about it to me.
