I would like to find out what the summertime (July) daytrip options are on the Magaguadavic River.
My inquiry pertains to a kevlar canoe with very little rocker... I am looking for relatively slow-moving water with no rapids (Kevlar scratches easily).
Some questions follow:
1. Is the section between Thomaston Corner and Brockway all slow-moving / quiet water?
2. Is the section between Brockway and Pomeroy all slow-moving / quiet water?
3. Is the section between Pomeroy and Second Falls all slow-moving / quiet water?
4. Is the section between Second Falls and St George all slow-moving / quiet water?
Further comments re good put-in spots, things to watch out for, etc are welcomed.

Yes.

Quiet pretty well all the way to Flume Ridge, some faster water after that, a long rapid (Turnaway??) and then McDougall Falls, a class 111 rapid. Still lots of slow water, yet some rips....
3. Is the section between Pomeroy and Second Falls all slow-moving / quiet water?
4. Is the section between Second Falls and St George all slow-moving / quiet water?
Dunno.
Much depends, of course, on water levels.

#1 some rocky swifts at the first. #2 some rapids nothing serious. class 2 at flume ridge in moderate water. #3 best rapids on the river, flat sections between class 2 and class 3 rapid. portage around mcdougle falls. easy walk around little falls, no trail around long rips, in moderate water this is a class 2 and long, in high water it is much more. #4 all quiet on the mag after second falls. no rapids slow current.s.

Thanks, Ken and Kyle, for your feedback. For planning purposes, approximately how long (hours) would it take to paddle casually from Second Falls down to St George? Where are the convenient St George take-out options located?

haven't done that section in a few years, there are lots of take out options as the river is next to the road. time will depend a lot on the wind. check out the geomap viewer. you can see topo pics of that area and plan entry and exit points. that whole section can be done in one day.
