My wife and I could not resist the urge to put our kayaks in the water when we had those freakishly nice days on March 21 and 22nd. We put in at the Elgin bridge and shot the Pollet in 2 hours flat. The water was fast, furious and cold...yes I went in just after the Parkingdale Bridge brrrr. Managed to drag all my equipment to side with maximum effort but lost my brand new gps should not have had it with me. The beautiful weather let me warm up in about 12 mins and we finished the trip without any further scares. Saw a few deer a mile or so before the take out point for us at the Old Folks Home. Was an excellent start to the season. My wife and I plan to do the South West Miramichi on May long weekend in our 10 foot kayaks. Any tips on good camping spots and things to watch out for would be appreciated. putting in at deesedale and out at boisetown. New to the site and just love it all ready. Happy Paddling. Jonny

. My wife and I plan to do the South West Miramichi on May long weekend in our 10 foot kayaks. Any tips on good camping spots and things to watch out for would be appreciated. putting in at deesedale and out at boisetown. Jonny There are plenty of camping spot all along the Miramichi. Choosing to go on the busiest weekend of the paddling season may limit their availability. If you must go, put in early Friday morning to get ahead of the crowd. Get the river map from service NB assuming they still sell them. Where to camp depends on the number of nights you plan to be out. As far as to what to watch out for, the Miramichi can be 2 different rivers depending on the water level. High water is a fast wet run , lots of fun but not for a new paddler, low water is a challenge of rock dodging, lots of them in the river that limit the path you can take. There are lots of picture out there of this canoe run but there are not many pictures of the technical parts other than Burnthill. There aren't many pictures of the other challenging sections because you can stop easily. Jamie
