Headed up to do a run on the Nepisiguit this weekend. Putting in at Mt Carlton and running the river down to the dam at Grand Falls over 3 days. From the canoe map it shows two portages, one at Indian Falls and the other at the Gouge. Wondering if the portage trails are smooth enough to use my canoe cart. I've read a few reports on the river including Nanook's and it sounds like you one could run Indian Falls with an empty boat, especially my ark, a 20 ft XL tripper. The gauge at Middle river is at 1.0 now and dropping to probably 0.8 by Sat. Just spoke with the Ranger in Bathurst and he said I should be able to do the whole run without a portage. If you can pass on any first hand knowledge it would be appreciated. www.wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/graph/graph_e.html?stn=01BJ010Hoping to catch my dinner when I'm there....... Cheers, Capt. Billy

First Check in the trip reports for last year probably page two, there were a few groups that ran it.
Second A seasoned group of gents ran it last weekend and from what I here they did not have a good go of it, runaway boats and gear and such and a extra night in the woods. I am trying to get them to post up a trip report it sounds interesting.
Third I was able to do this run last May long and the water levels were about the same. It might be a little low at the start from the lakes in Mt Carlton But around popple depot it gets just fine. Indian falls has two major ledges You can check out my Video in the general board/trip reports. The first ledge is runnable IMHO, The second one you will probably want to portage. We ran both in kayaks. Scout both first to see if they are in your comfort zone. Its a very fun section lots of class two rapids leading up to the ledges and afterwards.
I am thinking when you say the gorge you might be meaning the Narrows I guess they mean the same thing. We found it to be a easy run loaded with all our gear. Scout it first as best you can to see if you want to run it or not. It would not be a very fun portage up a good size hill.
The only other Gorge is at the Dam in Grand Falls that MUST be portaged but if your taking out there you don't really need to worry.
Have a GREAT trip and a safe one.
There are lot of others here that can give you some info as well:) Tickles

Thanks Tickles. Your video of Indian Falls and the Narrows is very helpful, great helmet cam. It would appear that the first drop of the falls is runnable as is the Narrows after a scout of course. Let you know how we make out. Cheers
