My wife and I went for a float Saturday afternoon from Stanley to Nashwaak Bridge. Durham gauge was 19.3. We had run this stretch last summer with the gauge at 18.1 and it had been an easy, if rocky trip. Saturday was different. There were 2-3ft standing waves in 5-6 places before MacLaggan Bridge, the best was right under the bridge in Stanley. We had pretty good fun bobbing up and down in our 11&12ft kayaks and the run was a mere 2 hours. I've been on smaller, steeper runs this spring so far and had forgotten just how powerful and different a bigger river is at high levels, good times.
