After hemming and hawing, I turned down an offer to run the Eel on Saturday, in the middle of the freshet. The river is flooding, and the water is high and cold. Since I'm prone to swimming, I decided to stay high and dry.
I'd go if I had a dry suit. I decided to wait until next week, I have another trip planned.
Anyone going paddling this weekend (May 7)?

Yeah lots of people are heading out this weekend. You can borrow my drysuit if you want...I find them too warm this time of year.

Go Ken Go. Even if you take an easy run, it's a shame to miss out on a spring weekend.

Well, Hal and I are going on the Miramichi Sunday. There's a nor'easter brewing, heavy rain that day, maybe 50cm+. No way to re-schedule, Hal's driven up from Boston way to make this trip. We'll spend some time way way up by Juniper poling, Hal is going to show me the ropes. Gonna take some firewood with me, we'll have a warm fire at Half-Moon for sure.

Ken this sounds like the perfect trip if you ask me! The conditions sound above perfect. I wish I could meet this legendary Hal, He looks like the Friendly Green Giant in the pic's in your book... But I think I will be getting into my own trouble:) I'll let you know what happens....

Sounds a great trip ... rain or shine.
Be very interested to hear what the water's like ... I'm hoping to do the same trip very soon.
Enjoy and good luck!

Ken, We've got a small group of old friends putting in Sat am at half moon. You'll probably see my old Toyota there. Conditions look perfect. 2.5m right now and climbing. I'm a bit of a lightweight and 3.2m is about my limit. I've done it at 3.2m, comfortably doable for me, but much higher is way more action than I care for. I go on this trip for down time We've got 14 years in on this run now, we don't go irregardless of the water levels as we used to. We don't wear jeans any more either Must be learning something. Pete
