I've seen a short video clip of kayakers on a rapid on the South branch of the Renous. Has anyone paddled this river, say from Route 108 west to route 108 east?
I see there is a stretch called the Narrows. I think the rest is doable, just this area ......... does anyone know?

Mister
You need to stop firing up my imagination. I have little time for the goals I have now without you suggesting trips I missed. That being said that would be a fun and long trip. Is it doable and when spring, summer and fall? The photos look as though it is doable in the summer but they can lie readily.

You saw photos? where? I've looked at the stream as I travelled over it on the highway bridge. The map shows rapids for the first few miles after the bridge. I think it gets gentler past the Narrows, might make a good fishing trip. It would also be interesting to pole up the stream from the upper bridge in lower water and carry over into the Kennedy Lakes to explore.

I used the NB Geo site and changed from the map to air photo. Surely you know about the site. The air photos appear to be late summer because there were 2 rock gardens on the upper part.

Here: geonb.snb.ca/geonb/Click on the planet and change to aerial map. You can go down to 1 inch equals 200 metres.

Yes, thanks, I looked there too, but one can learn only so much from the aerials. Just make me dream more.

I'm pretty sure Paul Hill from Miramichi has paddled this stretch. Not sure if he's on these forums or not though.

I've talked to Paul about this. If you want to do it Ken I can get you the coordinates for their take-out, which I figure would be just about the right place for a canoer to put in. There is some footage of the run from the bridge down to the Narrows on Youtube, but it's a compilation and the S Renous is like the last minute or so. I wouldn't put my canoe down through the upper parts. I'd kayak it though www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tzoedvofcAI'd love to do this run in salmon season, spend a couple of days fishing my way down to the forks then right down to Quarryville.

Found them... N46 45.054 W66 23.201 This is about 4 kms above the Narrows though. I've fished in through there, the road is good and there would be other places along the dirt road to put in down below.

Just put those coordinates into GeoNB the road goes almost up to the river.

Well, it looks a little gnarly for a canoe above the Narrows ... at least for me. I'm sure there are others more intrepid who would try it though. Although maybe with a spray skirt and a tight brace? I might just load up with beer and fishing gear and float down from below the Narrows on a sunny weekend instead of braving the gorges upstream. Ken

Ken if you do that, let me know if you need company. I've wanted to see that stretch and fish it all. I have the pools all loaded on my gps, but I bet there are more pockets just waiting to be discovered!

Hmmm, glad I checked this post out. I'm a novice kayaker and I was planning on trying this one out in 2 weeks. My in-laws camp off the 108 and I thought about Munson's Landing to where the river meets the #8. I figured it'd a nice 3-4 hour trip. I doubt I'd encounter anything too difficult that far along the river?
