Can anyone tell me the best way to drive into this lake. I got Yardis with a canoe on top so no 4 wheeler trails. Is there are route in from Charlie Lake or Allandale? I would like to use this lake to train for a trip I plan to Tobeatic on retirement in 2013 as the terrain is much the same on a smaller scale.

The road and property around Charlie Lake is private and often gated .

Thanks, I guess me and the Yardis will be trying Allandale. I have not been up there since the explosion in ATV use, is the road any good.

I was up around there this past summer in my Cherokee. The road was decent to the camps, typical pot holes and such, but after the camps became pretty ridiculous. Definitely need ground clearance. Not sure what it would be like during this time of year, could be sloppy.

I hope you're not planning a paddle down to the Saint John. It's not passable for canoes. You can go up to Kilburn Lake, if you enjoy portaging.

Ken
No plans on going down to the SJ I hike up that route in the eighties and would never take an open boat down that madness! But I was thinking of portaging up between still waters from where the bend in the road comes very close to stream to the lake. Tobeatic is all about portaging between deadwaters so the practice is welcome. The terrain is the thing for me, rock garden lakes, errantics on shore, swampy portages. 3 days up there will prepare me for 30 or 40 days in Tobeatic. Judging from my air photos the islands look campable and there is 2 portages to go to Kilburn?
