For some reason I want to run this this spring. A few questions.
This is not going to kill me right? I think someone said to run it on the right side when facing it right? Basically I need to do a boof right before going over with a power stroke on the paddle to try to keep the nose up.
No big rocks to bonk ones head off so fairly safe. Basically I'll be in a old school dagger crossfire.
At the worst I'll need to do a roll if the water is deep enough or a wet exit, I'm not going to break my back or anything.
Thanks for your input and suggestions.
If you have another drop that would be beginner friendly let me know.

IMGP8831 by hayward home, on Flickr Well, I don't think anyone's gonna say, "go ahead and run it, you won't get hurt." I think with any waterfall drop you have to weigh the benefits of a few second's exhilaration against the risk of breaking bones. Not that I've run a lot of waterfalls.... Tay Falls might be a better drop, it's more of a three-stair ledge with a four-to-five foot third step. Here's the famous video of Jamie going for a swim ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=73MWq5hluM0

Looks pretty straight forward with a safe looking swim if need be. I'm just getting into running falls myself so I can't offer much help but I do know from experience that the swims aren't that bad... ;D A C1 like the Crossfire should be great for this type of thing... oh yeah.. another 'beginner friendly' falls the falls at the top of the rock garden on the North Meduxnekeag. Check out minute 1:40 on this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytbhPPVZAoEfire an email to jeffk at craigattachments dot com when your plan comes together.. I'd come run Dunbar with you

I've been scoping these falls out for a while now. I've been paddling from the falls down as an after work run when the water is up. Make sure you check these out with low water... there is a shelf on both sides of the bottom of the falls. If you run river right you'll most likely land on rock, unless it's pumping so hard that you overshoot the ledge. The river left is similar but the ledge is a little lower in the water. Ideally I think a straight shoot down the middle/leftish with a boof would be best. There is a deep hole dead center... you can actually jump off the falls into this hole in the summer... it's about 8-10 feet wide, so you have to pick your line right. To make it a little more interesting, the flow looks as if it'll want to push you more left heading into the falls. Having said all this, I haven't run them myself, but from talking with a guy who has (liquidmonkey), and studying them for 3 years I'm thinking this is the route. I never felt confident trying them in my playboat, but my new creeker wouldn't be bothered by them one bit. The whole Dunbar stream is a fun paddle as well. Putting in up at the north and south junction provides a half decent trip down to the nashwaak

Okay, I've heard the word "boof" a thousand times, and still don't know what it means. Anyone?

HAHAHA that is a great idea! A boof clinic is definitely needed. It's seems some of us whitewater junkies are infesting these forums with crazy talk!

Now that looks like a person should be boofing from center to the right a bit off the drop... or does that shelf work it's way across? I could spend an afternoon just doing this again and again. So you have a crossfire Tickles? My favourite boat Let me know if you ever need another skirt for it. I have two; one brand new. This should be a great spot to try out our new boats on a drop David.

I'd agree with Dave's comments. I've run this right, left and center. Safest spot would be river left. the shelf seems to diminish or somewhat angle there. Almost where you see the water stop and the rock juts out. It almost helps keep your nose up.
Right and middle definately have pinning and broken ankle potential if you pencil in. I've seen some boats bent and dented here. The Pool is the easiest swimming spot you'd ever find.
Have fun! I can't garantee no booboo's as I've had my fairshare.
Cheers

Well, myself and three good buddies ran the falls last night after work. The levels were exactly the same as the picture above. Each one of us ran it with no problems, although we did find out where not to go as well lol. If you look at the crest of the falls, just a hair lookers left from center, you'll see where it cuts back... don't take that line. My buddy was pushed into that line and definitely hit some rock on his landing. We all heard it loud and clear. He was 100% fine afterwards, but preferred not to do that line lol. The sweet spot is just lookers right to that spot. I'm working on a little video from our night. I'll post it up as soon as it's done. I can't wait to try these with some good water levels... this was just barely enough to run them, a little more and it would be a riot!

Oh, you must do your best to boof these as well. The last thing I'd ever want to do is go straight down into them.... could be some busted ankles otherwise.

Awesome !!!! Was the water cold? Looking forward to seeing the video so I can figure were to drop this. So your saying look at the V in the center and run to the right of that while looking at the falls not coming down river.....
