Anyone seen anything appealing yet? North Medux verified runable after work tonight all the way to the confluence at Jackson falls then totally open all the way to redbridge.. and the levels are great. Still a big icejam in the lower section for as far as you can see from the trans canada. Jackson falls is running really big.. scary big for me. Lower Becaguimec appears runnable but no one's gone through it yet and it's impossible to tell from the road... it's on my menu for this weekend though... probably saturday right around lunch time Eel river appears to be good from Benton but you'd probably need to take out at the camps and it may be fun trying to get into them even with a 4x4.. If you had a snowmobile you could run shuttle up the railway bed. the lower eel in meductic is jammed up against the saint john river just like the medux

My first run with the Esquif L'edge....frozen water counts doesn't it?? I just couldn't wait once I got it home. Well.. you made out alot better than me.. thanks for meeting me half-way to deliver my L'edge... what a sweet little boat. ... note to self: if you're anxious for a run in your new boat but you don't have the outfitting setup yet choose something other than a flood-stage stream with pretty much no eddies that runs into a 'gotta make' gap into an iced-over river... try starting that new boat in a pool.. or even sliding around the yard maybe doh!

Well, I finally had my first paddle this season. Myself and two good buddies ran the Waweig river in Charlotte County on Saturday, March 19. It was the highest levels I've paddled this stream yet. This stream is full of class 2-3 rapids, with only a couple of sections that you have to get out and scout. I ended up having a swim on the first good 'falls'. The water was refreshing since we were all overheating with all the gear on. About half way down this river is a small branch stream that connects with it. When looking on a topo map, you see the contour lines tighten up in one section not far from where it meets the waweig... so curiosity took over. We dragged our boats up stream through the woods and found some spectacular rapids and falls. Ideally it needs a bit more volume to the flow, but it was just enough we could have a successful run. All in all the run was a success and I got my swim over with right away, and also put some new war wounds on my new boat! Normally I get all these on film, which I did this time.... but.... my helmet cam was angled down way too far. The shots were nothing but my hips and boat and foaming water all over. Couldn't make anything out at all. Maybe next weekend I'll do it again and get it right. Good times!!!

Becaguimec is great! a few of us ran it today.. there's even a channel in the St. John river so the regular take-out at the covered bridge tourist bureau is accessible. The big december flood created some new fun spots, no real wood to worry about (even though my photo would seem to argue the point) and the ice is all gone from the bank. L'Edge shakedown run now complete.. by the end of the run it was feeling _really_ comfortable. There is a lot of 'edge' to this boat.. you've gotta be conscious about where your weight is on the hull.. its kind of like a snowboard: pick an edge and ride it.. flat bottom is unpredictable. It also likes a really 'active' stance.. you've got to be in the 'front seat' to paddle this sports car... ... and no.. I didn't try rolling it... I'll wait for the pool to check that.

Way to go guys! I really had the itch to get out this weekend but between maple syrup season and getting ready to go away, I couldn't find the time. See you in Vegas Jeff!
Rylan....I don't get back until Saturday so the following weekend April 2nd I am planning a trip. I'm not sure if its an overnighter on the Mag or just a couple day trips. I'm anxious to try the L'edge so maybe a couple day trips.

Right on Mitchell... sounds good. I'm up for anything right now... Just seam sealed the old drysuit with some sympatex tape. Good as new now! Wow, that L'Edge is only 9'2"... looking good in those guys... on both snow and water.
I took a drive up by the Rusagonis on Saturday... river was wide open at the covered bridge (Take out, I suppose). I didn't peek at the put in though. Seems like it could be a nice close to home paddle/swim.
