Let's here what rivers you'd like to run first this season.
I think my first will be the Piskehagen, or the Digdeguash to get the hang of my new kayak.
What's yours?

I think I'd like to play a bit on bigger water first day, then spend the night camped on the Dig, then spend the next day running the NW Dig... no stopping on it this time though Pokiok has to be done too.

I have some smaller rivers in mind, but I don't wanna say which ones just yet because the last time I said here I was going to run a new river, I got laid up and other folks went where I was planning on exploring. Kinda took the shine off it. So I'm keeping my plans close to my chest ... at least for a while.
There is a park beside the Pokiok near the old TCH where you can scout the rapids. They're steep and narrow, you should scout first, Derek, I think.

For sure Ken! I've been drooling over it for a couple of years now. It needs a lot of water. And tight as it is, we'll likely walk the whole stretch first to make sure nothings in the way. It looks real neat around that bridge about 4kms upstream. Took lots of pics up there last year scouting. Replacing my old river-runner with a new creeker, and I just can't wait to get paddling!!!
Also keeping fingers crossed...put in for Patapedia CR stretch in July. I'm thinking it must be beautiful up that way. I think it's a three day canoe run. Anyone in here ever run this river?

Biff and I ran the Patapedia a "few" years back. The water was low, but it was easy going. I don't recall any rapids, just one rock where I broke a rib on my wooden canoe. We started a few miles up inside Quebec, and ran out to Campbellton. Didn't see any fish, it was kinda early in the season.
I thought the scenery was better on the Upsalquitch and Restigouche than on the patapedia ...b ut that;s an opinion, not a fact.

Most likely it will be the Magaguadavic again this year as this is usually the first river to open and nearest to Fredericton. We definately won't be paddling on March 20 this year though. I am looking forward to a nights sleep on the Mag as well....nothing better than the cool spring air for a refreshing nights sleep.
I've still got my eye on Cross Creek sometime this spring as well. It may not be anything exciting but I just have to try these streams that are in our backyard.
I'll be picking up the new Esquif L'Edge to run on the Tay and other day trip rivers. It is supposed to be easier to roll than the Nitro I had before....I'll soon find out.

The Patapedia CR is nice , but while you have 3 days fishing you need 5 days for the trip . 1 day going , 3 days fishing and another day coming home . One time I did it I tied in the 2 days daily water with the regular 3 days and then ran down to the Rafting Grounds , 8 days and 7 nights on the water. It's rugged country , go prepared . If you get drawn and want some info let me know .
Magaguadavic might have a few more obstacles in it this year after the December flood , watch out for camps and cars in the river .

I haven't run Cross Creek, but my buddy Mr. Intrepid did some years back. He started at the bridge where the North and South branches meet, on the Parker Ridge Road. Sweepers, and a falls halfway down is what I remember from his trip report.

North Medux / Eel River / ColdStream-Becaguimec will probably start the season for me, probably not this, but next weekend if we're lucky.... FYI.. if anyone's really jonesin' Coldstream appears to be open and run-able. Verified at lunch hour today.

Tickles, what are you running in for a boat? If / when you run the upper nashwaak give me a shout, I might join up with you if there is room. Both Cedar Bridge and Narrows bridge went out last Decembre, but it is still doable. I'd love to run the Eel too. Be careful if you run the N Renous. It is not overly dangerous, but a constant white-water run with no breaks at high water. I'd like to run that from the lake to the bridge someday.

My boat of choice is a old town 14 foot Castine. I would like to try the upper Nashwaak at high water. Last time we did the upper part it was a little low and was still a riot. I'll let you know if and when something develops. Probably will be a last minute trip as I live on the nashwaak anyways. And if things go sour I'm still close to home

I've my Nitro and gear ready at the door. I will go and throw some rocks off some bridges tomorrow to speed up the process. (not really) But I am looking to get some paddling before april. Anyone seen anything appealing yet?
