Three young, handsome and oblivious gentlemen did the Eel River on Friday, November 26. There was plenty of water for floating a boat. There was plently of snow to make a slushy mess when water entered the boat. The slushy water made things even colder on the feet.
The headpond where the Eel enters the SJ River was turning into slushy icecover. If it would have been a few degrees cooler we may not have been able to make it to the takeout. It creates a noticeable drag on the boat.
Great day on the river and we all believed this was the latest in the year we had done a significant paddle. It took us about 5 hours. The snow coming down all day made a neat backdrop. We saw a moose and a couple otters were very curious of our trip. Either that or they thought we were nuts.
Cheers
