Hi Folks, I have family visiting from Ontario and plan to show them some NB highlights. I'm looking for some planning advice for a 2-night trip on the St Croix.
Was thinking about putting in on Friday at supper time and paddling down to Wingdam Island for our first night camping. Hoping that would give us a night kick-start to the weekend and get us ahead of the Sat. morning crowd.
I'd like to paddle a decent day (not too far / fast) and then camp along the river on Saturday night ... leaving a final two or three hours of paddling for Sunday morning.
Any suggestions on where to camp on Saturday night?
Any suggestions on the final take-out? Is the Canoose River too far?
Any help or advice that anyone can provide would definitely be appreciated.
SpG..

My vote would be paddle somewhere below Little Falls and pick one of the sites on the Canadian side, and then take out at Loon Bay on the last day.

If you go just below Gravel Island there is a nice spot on the left called Brown's Flat or just below that on the right is a new one called Split Rock which is nicer for swimming. Both offer easy evening paddles, then a short day to Loon Bay. The crowds generally get out before these sites as well at Scott Brook or Gravel Island. We did this exact trip a month ago and it was great. We did see a vehicle at Loon Bay that had a broken window, but ours was fine. Used Tammy's shuttle service.
