My wife and I paddled (in kayaks) from Hampton down to Saint John along the Kennebecasis R., and then up the St. John R. towards Fredericton. We paddled for 3 1/2 days and ended our trip at McGowans Corner (115 km). Our original intent was to paddle to F'ton (150 km) but we would have needed 1 more day, which we didn't have. We averaged about 35 km per day. Paddling up the St. John allowed us to have the prevailing SW winds at our tails, and we noticed the effects of the daily tide all the way up to Jemseg. Camping was abundant on the islands, but is a bit sparse along Long Reach. Not exactly a wilderness experience along the lower SJ, but Evandale to Jemseg was pleasantly quiet. In all, it's a good multi-day trip right in our backyards.
