Hey guys,
My cousin and I thought we were going down Lepreau river to Lepreau falls, but we found out at the end that we were kayaking New River. This little run(approx 5 km) was really fun with a lot of small water falls and some white water. It had rained quite a bit the few days before so the water levels were perfect; no dragging. There were only two spots we had to portage because the water falls were just too big for our experience.
I would recommend this river to anyone looking for a bit of adventure in thier paddle. We are by no means experts and we had lot's of fun.
The only thing to be aware of is when you paddle into the bay at the end of New River. The tides were super high and my cousin and I both got swamped by the crashing waves. It threw my boat and myself up the rocks like a toothpick.
Has anyone else ran this river?

Fletch,
Well, that's a new one on me, launching on the wrong river. But I can see that happening, those two rivers are side by each. I once nearly launched on Shin Creek thinking it was the Piskahegan....
The Lepreau has several big nasty falls, maybe you did the right thing by accident.
The Pocologan is another small stream in that area. I talked to one fella who kayaked it many years ago and he said it was great. It's longer too, I think.

Thanks for the report Fletch, I've had my eye on that one for a while. This could be a nice addition to a surf at Mace's Bay. And that Pocologan sounds interesting too. Did the fella mention any falls? 197 feet dropping over 5 miles sounds like fun but not stressful.

I've run the New several times and there is a crew in SJ that runs this regularly when the water is high. The rapid below the old dam needs lots of water as well as the big drop.
Cheers
