Greetings:
In another thread ldmrt (Linda?) noted that she would be willing to share her knowledge of access to the NW Upsalquitch. I was wondering if the stretch of river before 30-mile (from the point of confluence between Chisholm Brook & the NWU) is runnable or not. I've pored over maps, trip reports, and online information, and although I'd like to imagine high enough water closer to Hwy 180, I can't seem to find any proof that it's doable. Can you help me out?
Thanks,
Kris

I've never been up that far, the furthest I've been up is 27 Mile Brook. I've heard stories of a beaver dam above there that's blocking the river, but I think that was a few years ago. I'll try to catch my buddy from the DFO who does the fish counting and see if he's been up that far. Might take me a few weeks to hunt him down, he hibernates in the winter when he's not working.

When I did it, last ice age, we drove in from Whites Brook on the Stewart Highway (17) to the 27 mile. The road was not well marked, and there were a few tricky spots. No idea what the road looks like now.

Thanks for the info...I'll be scouting the area as soon as the snow is gone, and I appreciate any further info that you can provide. We're looking at a May-long trip on the river, and would like to make it a legit 2-day paddle or a stretched 3-dayer up to Upsalquitch. Cheers!

I went about 6 years ago now(I think, 7 at the most) and the road from White's Brook(by the church) was very, very good. They had been harvesting lumber in that area and had done alot of work on the road. The only part that was rough was from where the road ended down to the river, about a 1/4 mile. It was not passable by truck, and we had to haul our gear from the road to the river, through a brook, all by hand. I think my mom has a map of the road we used, with specific turnoffs.
If you do go this way, be sure to check out Poison Lake..... it's beautiful, and only takes you slightly out of the way. The newer, better road goes up higher than the road that goes by the lake, but they do join up again.
FYI, we still have between 2-3 feet of snow up here.
