Has anyone run this stream this spring and summer? I would like to go soon, and I need to get a handle on the water level. Linda M. says the water is high right now, but I won't be going for another week or so. If you have gone, please note the date and tell me if the water was high or low, so's I can use the current Environment Canada water level graph at www.wateroffice.ec.gc.ca/graph/graph_e.html?stn=01BE001Thanks, Ken

Water levels are still holding, water is clearing up from the silt. We're supposed to get more rain tomorrow, but it's supposed to be sunny all week. Definately runnable though.
We went May 29 and 30th from the 10 Mile on the NW. It was lowish, meaning we drug in a few spots, but didn't have to get out to tow or be on constant rock watch. We were also packed lighter than normal.

Xzakly what I needed, Linda. When I'm back on my home 'puter, I'll update the chart for the Upsalquitch.
If my buddies crap out and leave me solo for the Upsalquitch, I'll be going closer to home....... Drama, eh?!!

You can definately run in 2 days. I so wish I wasn't going to PEI now. I'd hook up for a trip with you all, if you were making the trip up to go. However, I'm Island bound next weekend, and work the weekend after that.
We ran from the 10 Mile, put in at 6 PM, paddled to the Forks for about 9:30, and spent the night there. We were on the river by 8:30ish and made it home by 4. Now that seems like a long time, but the wind was HORRIBLE the second day. We paddled our a$$es off and the canoes were pulled from one bank to the other by the wind and it took forever. The wind almost ripped the paddle out of my hands at a few points it was so strong. It probably took us an extra 2-3 hours to come down the second day.
River is still running quite high today, I think we are still getting rain showers upriver to keep the levels so high. Usually after a big raise, they return to normal after a few days, however the river is still muddy and high. Awesome paddling conditions. Friends of mine tubed from Upsalquitch to Robinsonville, which usually takes 4 hours with just floating and made it in 2.
Hope you guys make it up to paddle my part of the north. There are people fishing this time of year, but those will be the only people you will see the entire time you are out fishing. The first 7 miles(if you're heading from the 10 Mile) will have 4 guys over the entire 7 miles, the next 3 miles will have 2 fishing, and from the Forks to Crooked Rapids, another 2 fishing. After that you're on American water(Two Brooks Camp), but they usually don't fish weekends, and you'll only reach that water on Sunday and they never fish Sundays anyway. You have another camp after that, Boland Brook Camp, where my Dad guides, and they only fish 2 boats too. No problems there either. After that you're on Crown Reserve water, Berry Brook Stretch, with 4 fishermen, if it's in use that day. This brings you into the community of Upsalquitch. My house is by the first boat road on the left hand side of the river, right after the first set of power lines crosses the water. After that you're into another camp leased water, this time from an old English land grant, this is owned by a family out of NS. They fish 2 boats. And after that you're into Irving's waters until you reach the mouth of the Upsalquitch.
The two easiest take out points are by the bridge in Upsalquitch, or the bridge in Robinsonville. The bridge in Upsalquitch is where we take out because my Mom's house is right there, and that's where the canoes are stored. If you wanted to take out there, you could park a vehicle in the bottom part of her yard by the road. She'll be on vacation with me, so won't mind at all. There's usually a car or two parked there anyway.
and if you need info on anything else, give me a shout up until Wednesday evening.

Me too! Me too! Can I come huh? Can I? Can I? The wife thinks we have plans this weekend, but sometimes a man's paddle does the thinking for him. (Insert your own joke here)

Linda,
What would be a nice run. I would be there by Friday night and camp at the put in. So an all day paddle Saturday and be done by mid afternoon Sunday. Are water levels still holding good? Does anyone up there shuttle? I believe Arpin does? Thanks,
Mitchell

Water levels are very good still. Was talking to Dad earlier tonight and we actually had a raise of another 2-3 inches overnight last night.
We usually run from the 10 Mile down this time of year, just because of the fish fence being in now for the summer and the hassle of having to portage around it. The wardens can be a bit, ummm.... cranky? when they have unexpected company. You have to go and see the fish though, it's pretty neat to see all of them just swimming there in the river.
You could definatly do this in 2 days. Heck, if you put in early enough on Saturday morning, and did some paddling(we usually just float) you could do it in a day with the water levels we have right now. You'd be late getting off the water though. We usually stretch this into a 2 night trip, put in late Friday afternoon, run a few miles, camp for the night on the NW, then camp on the main branch of the Upsalquitch, usually on Two Brooks water. No early mornings, no paddling and early take outs too.
Arpin's does do shuttling, they are pretty busy with the Restigouche this time of year, but I'm sure they could bring a couple of canoes in for you. If you were willing to canoe right down to the Rafting Grounds on the Restigouche, they could pick you up there when they make their trip down to pick up their canoe rentals. What are you driving? An SUV type vehicle would definately get you in to the 10 Mile. If not, you could definately park by the bridge in Upsalquitch or at the bridge in Robinsonville, by the highway. You could leave a vehicle parked by the church right by the bridge down the Wyers Brook Road. It's pretty secluded and you wouldn't have to worry about any vandalism, same as in Upsalquitch.
There was alot of work done on the road since the last time we were in 2 years ago, I'm sure a car could make it in there now. The road I'm talking about is out past the entrance of Mount Carleton park. It's on a turn and just look for the yellow fish signs at the entrance.
I really hope you's get to come up for the trip. It's a beautiful little river, no great rapids or anything, and no dangerous spots(not compared to what you have posted and showed videos of), but the scenery is amazing!!! Some parts of the river(NW) the river twists just like a snake, with some of the sharpest turns.
I'lll post a final water level on Wednesday or Thursday before I leave, but I don't anticipate the water levels dropping much, there's rain and thundershowers in the forecast for the rest of the week.
Any more questions, please let me know!

Mitchell, Ryan,
we were planning on starting at twenty-seven mile and running to Robinsonville, a solid three-day run. I have to get in touch with the other fellers and see what's shaking.
Frankly, I'm not sure two days would do it justice. It could be done......
ttyl,
Ken

Thanks for all the help Linda. I am in contact with Arpin for a vehicle shuttle. I will be bringing my own gear and a 4wd half ton so I just need someone to shuttle my vehicle from the put in to the bridge in Upsalquitch. Later,
Mitchell

No Linda I did not make it. It is just too much driving for 2 days of paddling. I am saving it for when I have 3 days so I can take my time and enjoy it.

Leaves are BEAUTIFULLLLL up here right now. And due to the recent rains, water levels are making me drool after over a month of low, low water. If you're thinking of a fall trip, the next week would be wonderful. I'm on vacation.... we're talking of a Sunday, Monday trip on the Thanksgiving weekend.
Timing is also right to maybe catch some spawing salmon too, which is amazing to watch.
