We put in to the North Tay at Royal Road thinking we would be in the Tay before too long. I turned out it's narrow in places with several sharp bends and sweepers...one clear across the river. In a few places, it splits and you need to know which way to go. Good thing we had kayaks, I think you would need hinges on a canoe to get around some of the bends. In any case, we didn't get too far down...never actually made it to the Tay. We hiked back up to the car. I will run it some day but will likely check it out a little better. I think it may be a little low in the summer unless we've had a good rain. Two Carlisle paddles and a shoe are still missing from our trip. I have posted them on Lost and Found but if anyone finds them, I can be reached at greg.violette@gmail.com

The South Branch is your better bet. Bigger, fewer hairpin bends, still a chance of sweepers, longer run. You still need a good rain to run it. Runs steadily fast and rocky.

Greg,
That's great to know, I've never tried the north branch, did the south branch twice this spring.
Thanks, Pete
