Has anyone ever paddled the Pokiok stream, near Nackawic? The section you see from around the highways looks excellent. I just wonder what it is like way up river, and if there is good access to a put in. Looking on my map I see a possible access road that goes quite a ways up the stream. I'd like to give this a shot for next season. It seems that the whole Nackawic area is littered with excellent streams, creeks and rivers... very happy it's only a half hour drive from fredtown.

Dave,
I have scouted this stream a few times. I have been wanting to canoe the whole length sometime in the near future. There a quite a few long deadwaters with a few rapids in between until you get to the woods rd bridge. There is some really nice rapids here through a bit of a canyon. From here down looks like a good trip.

From the end of the deadwater down through the Nature Park to the river is very steep and would be tough in an open canoe.
The Pokiok actually starts at Lake George and then is fed by Davidson Lake. It's supposed to be a nice paddle along the stretch that runs behind Davidson Lake.

Yessir! I think I might take a drive there this weekend and do some scouting upstream. I'd like to give it a paddle this spring if anyone would like to join. I would do it sooner, but I can't afford to buy any cold water gear just yet... saving my pennies for this spring. I'm sure it will make for a great adventure!

If you stop at that nature park you will find trails that run along the stream. This should give you a good look at the stream. You can also get a good look at the stream where it is crossed by the road.
The nature park was built by the former owners of the Nackawic Mill. I don't think anyone is looking after it now.

David I've been drooling over that stream for a couple of years now, since I live so close. Just haven't found a partner crazy enough to try it with me. I think a buddy of my brother's ran that a long time ago; I'll see what I can dredge up for info about it. Be sure to post on here when you're going, I'd be interested and I bet there will be others too.
