I'm looking at doing a 2 day on the St Croix in mid August. never did that area and i'd like to end up close to St Stephen. Can anyone fill me in on put ins and water levels that time of year there etc? Thanks.

The dam at St. Croix is supposed to be spilling water from Aug 1-15 2007. Should be good paddling. I'm running the St. Croix from St. Croix to Loon Bay Lodge on the Aug long weekend.
If you are starting at St. Croix it will probably take more than two days to reach St. Stephen.

water level info available at waterdata.usgs.gov/me/nwis/uv?01018500 600 cfs or so is good, below 600 is scratchier. 1000 cfs or so is nice. grand falls flowage to st. stephen would probably be a good 2 day run, I have no info on this section and there is no marked campsites on my map either.looks like some crappy portages around some hydro dams and a couple of difficult rapids, one at milltown (c4) and one in st. stephen (c3+ depending on tides and flow) your best bet would be to order a st. croix waterway map through service nb, well worth the cash. a good easy 2 day run on the upper part would be from vancebero to loon bay or from scotts brook to grand falls.

thanks for the info guys. it sounds like the upper part is the best bet. i don't need to travel right to Milltown so i'm thinking Vanceboro etc. my partner will be less experienced so a 2 day easy sail would be best. good tip about the map, i'll get one. thanks again
