Friday, April 10th did from Giant's Glenn down to MacLaggan Bridge. Distance 10.2 km, Drop 35m, Time 2 Hrs
Crew: Paul M. & Beth J, Mike G. and J9, Dino K.
Had to crawl over ice cakes at the Glenn but we found a way in.
Going through the rip at Stanley, the tandem paddlers (Old Town Camper and Swift Demoine) got a few splashes into the boats and I got a face full of NB's finest "spring water" square in the kisser in the solo boat (Old Town Cascade).
Just before the Stanley Bridge we saw two hawks on River Left... smaller, brownish, with a rounded front wing profile. Cool.
Lots of, lots of deer on the River bank and road.
On the River by 2, had lunch and made MacLaggan Bridge by 4pm with a lunch on the River. Be advised...in the solo boat I was continually catching up... so the pace of my partners was quick.
Also at MacLaggan Bridge there was several feet of snow from the road all the way down to the take out. We lined the boats up the bank to the road.
The River gave us a chance to do some bailing and lots of places to see if we could recall how to catch an eddy. As the say.... if I was a baseball play I would be a supper star but a hitting percentage of around 500 in the eddy catching category is not star material.
Well, there is aways tomorrow... or today at noon, when we hit the NASHWAAKSIS!!! ;D
Does this make sense? A Garmin Map 76CSx with a barometer says that this trip started at an altitude of about 95 M and finished at about 60 M. The distance as measure by the unit was 10.2 km. Now I've never calibrated the barometer, or know much about the feature, plus the unit was in a water tight container for the trip.
Yours in the matters of spring fun,
Dino K.
