I have been watching this site and poking around for tid bits of knowledge and finally decided to join. A little about myself, I have been on the water since i could walk and am an avid catch and release fly fishermen. I am gone every weekend on some adventure and am always looking for someone to join me. Anyway keep up the great posts, It's nice to see that people are enjoying the beautiful province we live in the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

Welcome to the site. I know that many paddlers keep a little collapsible rod in their pack, dreaming of getting up before everybody else and catching a couple of sea trout for breakfast. Nothin' wrong with that, it's miraculous when it actually happens!

Well, where's the big June trip?
We are planning for the Dungarvon during the first June weekend. Mainly fishing, but I guess we need to pick up a paddle occasionally.
cheers...josh

jkurek, I like to fish the Dungarvon later for salmon, but have never tried it early for trout. Do you catch sea trout?

joshcatnb,
I would concentrate my trout fishing on the Cains between 123 and Shinickburn. Fewer decent spots past Shinickburn, although we did hook into a few monsters about 1 hr paddle below Shinickburn. All depends on water levels and weather.
dbradford,
I have never been to the Dungarvon, so this trip is more/less exploratory. As for sea trout, I imagine the Dungarvon gets a decent run??? Mainly salmon fish MSW and LSW, and Cains in Fall. Nashwaak for trout. I wouldn't mind your suggestions as decent pools to hit on the Dungarvon for salmon. All winter I have been mentally planning salmon fishing trips, to recently find out I am moving to Kingston, Ontario. One last summer here in NB- I better make it count!
cheers....jk

Josh,
I understand there are decent salmon runs in rivers to Lake Ontario, having seen fishing shows about this ( if you believe them.) So you won't have to give up salmon fishing in Kingston.

Ken,
I attended high school in Rochester NY so I am familiar w/ the fishing opportunities Lake Ontario offers. However, in my opinion, it is hard to beat the scenery eastern Canadian rivers offer. To me, fishing is much more than landing a decent sized fish. I am really going to miss all the adventures I have had in NB over the last 5 years.
My favorite rivers I have visited are: LSW, Cains, Nashwaak, upper MSW, Sevogle, and Renous.
What about your favorites?

Just five? Okay ... Upsalquitch, upper Miramichi, Keswick, North Renous, Nashwaak .... We caught a nice panful of trout on the Cains, and on the Dungarvon too, but I haven't done a lot of fishing from a canoe. I'm always hearing of some other feller hittin' a run of trout on the next river over, I usually just stick to paddling, it can get hairy enough.

Yeah, the Upsalquitch may not have great roller coaster rapids, but I remember it has awesome canyons and gin-clear water. I'm ashamed to confess how long it's been since I was last up there. I'm coming up this summer, and I'll let you know when, Linda.
