FPC Bulletin for Paddling Clubs & Canoeists in NB
Event: Level -1 classic Canoe Poling clinic
Hosted by the Fundy Paddling Club in Saint John.
Curriculum: This course is a basic introduction to poling on flat water and level 1 moving water: Check the Paddle Canada link for course contents, and for the progression to more advanced courses. paddlingcanada.com/programs/canoeing/cp1_overview.php
The course was developed by CKNB paddlers R Matchet and Kevin Silliker, on the Miramichi, and adopted by Paddle Canada for its national program.
Date: August 16/17 -- approximately 12 hour clinic to certification plus an optional river tour to refine and/or retest skill sets.
Venue: Fundy region, locale dependent on water levels in August. The intent is to locate this close enough to Saint John that participants can find lodging/camping there at Rockwood Park or elsewhere.
Prerequisites: Level D (solo flat-water) is ideal, but level C or significant solo or tandem paddling experience will be accepted at the discretion of the instructors.
CKNB Instructors: Kevin Siliker, Tim Humes , Evan Young
Numbers: minimum 6; maximum 15
Price: $165.00 for CKNB members; $180 for non-members. Included in this price is instruction, Paddle Canada participant registration ($11.53); CKNB course fee ($0.0 for CKNB members) ; canoe rental, poles, safety gear; logistics (tour shuttles if required). Not included: lunches, lodging, transport to the clinic site. You may use your own gear if it is outfitted to the Cost Guard specification

Registration: Confirm attendance if possible by August 12 (the cut-off date to reach the minimum numbers), and pay by cheque or money-order (payable to Evan Young) on or before 9:00 Saturday morn when we hit the water and leave the unregistered behind… !
