Four of us paddled the Cains from Rt. 123 to Blackville (taking out at the municipal park) on June 6 to June 8, 2008. This was primarily a fishing trip, although some beer was also consumed along the way. First off, this is a beautiful stretch of river and has no significant rapids at this time. Perfect for paddlers just starting out or those that just want to float and enjoy the view. I am certain that the bow man in Canoe B (as we call them) never even touched a paddle! We put in the water at 11 AM, fished hard along the way, and camped at Shinnickburn at 9 PM. On Sat we paddled and fished from 8 AM to 7PM, camping on an island a few kms upriver from the mouth of the Cains. No problems finding rustic campsites along the way. On Sunday morning at 7 AM after being unable to wake Canoe B (they would not move and I am certain one of them slept outside until 5AM) we headed to Blackville w/ some fishing along the way. We pulled out at 11:30 AM. The stretch on the Main SW could be bad w/ a strong headwind. Very enjoyable trip...I had my fun quota for the early Summer. About 10 nice trout were caught, the largest being 15". Flies were not as bad as we thought, we never had to put on headnets or wear the gloves some of our crew brought. The Cains would be a great paddle for an adventuresome family, kids might not like the flies though.

What's paddling without flies? I've never heard tell of that!
