Hi,
I was hoping that someone may know the lowest levels that you can paddle the Eel river? It's at 120cm right now near Dundee.

Dundee is on the Eel River that is near Campbellton, it is not the Eel River that empties into the Saint John River at Meductic and that is written about on this site. There is no guage listed for this Eel River.
There are two Eel Rivers in NB.

me and mitchell found that out the hard way. mitchell checked the gauge and compared it to a previous date that someone had run it and it looked good. we had a little bit of draging and scraping in one section, later on we figured out that the gauge was for the "other" eel river. coulda been worse though, i walked a long section of the north oromocto once when the stream seemed to drop faster than the gauge did. there is a section of the eel that is probably doable in low levels. contact Dino Kubic,(his email is on this site somewher) he knows a lot about this river and had mentioned this section to me this spring, i am unsure about the location of the takeout bridge

later on we figured out that the gauge was for the "other" eel river. Hehe, I've run into the "same name" trouble before while looking for information in Ontario (French River) and in Alberta/BC (Kootenay River). Who names these rivers anyway!?

I think it would be cool to reset many river names to their Micmac or Maliseet names, especially those rivers with the same name.

The Maliseet called the Eel River "Matawamkituck".
It means; "rapids at mouth where it shoots into main river"
I like this name better myself.

I agree.
It adds a little touch to the river when it's name discribeds it's mood.
Matawamkituck it is.
What's the Maliset name for river?

What's the Maliset name for river? That's a good question. If I found out I'll post it on here.
