We are planning a two/three day trip on the Salmon River the weekend of July 6, 2007.
Can anyone tell me the best place to put-in and to get out in around Gaspereau/Chipman and the length of time that should be planned for this run. From the road side, water levels seems great, is there portage involved? Any rapids or mainly a calm river?
Thanks for the info, I can't seem to find any threads on this river.

I've run the Salmon from Little Forks to Chipman. You might paddle a short way up the Gaspereau to the 116 bridge, there is a takeout road on the north east side. It may be grown up.
There is no whitewater. You might want to fish, there are nice pools. I can't guarantee fish, though.
The river rises nicely after a good rain. You can put in off Adamsville (way way up) if there is water. The tributaries also offer canoeing possibilities. I hope to get there this summer after a rain.
Check with the Salmon River Lodge on 116, he does shuttles.

Thanks Ken,
I called the lodge and apparently he will no longer do shuttles or allow canoes to load/unload on his property. He did mention that the lot next to his property on the Chipman side can be used to access the river. Keep it clean!

I last travelled the Salmon in mid June a couple years ago. It had been fairly dry in the preceeding couple of weeks so it was a very lazy run, but passable. we put-in on a camp property where the owners were there at the time. we just asked if we could leave a vehicle and put in there, and they were very gracious. most people in that neck of the woods are. we left bicycles at the take out and pedalled back for the car, which saved taking two vehicles. Next time I would pedal to the put-in so I have a car waiting when I finish intead of an endurance test! there are some nice sand bars along that stretch for camping also. as Ken mentioned, that river would be ideal after some rain, hopefully we get some before you go. good luck!
