Has anyone paddled the North or South Branch of the Rusagonis in the last couple of years? I'm looking for a good day trip to kick off canoe season within the next few weeks. Just wondering if anyone knows how much water is needed, and what kind of shape these streams are in. I read Ken's website about the put in and takeout. Anyone have any comments?
Thanks, Dave

Dave,
I did the north branch a couple years back and the south branch a few times last year. The south branch is a nicer stream and a bit longer. You can put in at the bridge on the Oleary rd and take out at the covered bridge in rusagonis for about a 4 or 5 hour paddle. The guage on the north branch oromocto should be at least 1m and no lower. Even at this height you'll scrape down over the ledges. Let me know when you go and I'll join you. Mitchell

Thanks Mitchell. I guess if the weather and water levels were good this Saturday, I'd give it a try then. I have a couple of buddies who might want to do this too. I'll check with them and give you a call asap if we're going to do it. Have you hit any rivers yet?

No I haven't been out anywhere yet. I spent this weekend at the old town sale in Maine. I'd be up for a trip this weekend though....just about anywhere sounds good right now.

I was out looking at the south branch of the rusagonis and its at a really good height right now. Hopefully the melting snow keeps it at this height.

Hey, I ran the North Branch on Saturday and the South Branch on Sunday. Both have lots of water in them at this moment. Watch for downed trees. In the north branch we put in on the Charter's Settlement road and took out at the covered bridge. On Sunday on the South branch we put in on the Oleary Road and took out on the Whittikar road, we did not run down to the ledges. North branch was faster, South branch was beautiful!

Yeah man that was me in the red Toyota Tacoma. There were 6 boats coming right down behind you. Nice pics. I heard that you ran right down to the bridge. Nice day for it.
