First of all great site !!! My name is Mike and I'm from Saint John .I just love reading Ken's river adventures in NB.With beverage and dictionary in hand i can spend hours glued to the monitor.Bartholomew with Bill reminds me of my May24 chi run last year. After months of nagging, I finally convinced my 60 y.o father that he would have the trip of a life time . Did we ever!!Five straight days of rain had risen the levels over 5 ft. We managed to make it to Burn hill falls, however , having gone into the drink several time , lost all our beverages safe 1 or 2 alpine, and depleted of any dry gear , we graciously accepted a ferry to Boiestown .Well this spring we are well on our way building our second cedar strip tripper , and can't wait for warmer days. We'd like to do the Cains up near the headwaters near Taymouth . Anyone know of a good put in spot?

When we put in, we just followed the map in from Taymouth and found ourselves by a camp, and there was a nice tenting spot off to the side a bit downriver. I don't think we could have started any higher up.
I don't know what the roads are like today. I can't even guess whether there's a gate there now.

I was just in that road this hunting season....all is good except for a couple big water holes at the end. Not a far carry to the river though. I've got the coordinates on my gps if you have one.

We took four days to paddle from the Taymouth Road to Shinninckburn. We weren't racing, but we were in no hurry either. Fishing, enjoying a few beer...
That was back in the day when we could take four days off to paddle. Seems impossible now!

Mike, The cooridnates are N46.13.53.4 and W66.22.19.1. If you follow the Zionville Rd back beyond the asphalt you'll see a fairly new logging rd, which I believe is also called the Zionville rd and is not on the SNB Atlas, and continue east. When you get close to these coordinates look for an older road on the left and follow it about 1.5 kms to the cains. I'll post some pics of the area on my site under the cains river photo section. I almost stepped right into the river without ever noticing it. I am hoping to give this section a try this year as well. I can't see why you couldn't run it from here to the Rt. 123 bridge in 2 days. Mitchell
