I know there is a big river run in the spring, people use anything that floats. I guess it is fun but I allways seem to miss it so I couldn't tell you for sure. I don't think the water levels stay up very long though.

Hey, did some more research and this is an annual event which takes place on the last Saturday of April every year. Sounds like fun, not to technical but the day starts off with a big breakfast at the firehall in Elgin and the rest is up to you! See you there

Anyone ever run this river? Looks like fun in the spring. Gordons falls are amazing! Yeah, the Pollett is a fun river in the spring. A pretty short season tyhough due to the river geting low pretty quickly. Apriland May are the best times for it although once in awhile it will come up a bit in th summer after alot of rain or in the fall. Don't tryrunning Gordon Falls though.... The big run in April...it is more of a "Party" than an actual paddling thing. You'll see rafts made out of oil drums etc and will see alot of heavy drinking for sure but it is still fun. I myself prefer it the rest of the time...without the party crown and the "rafts" and such. Cheers...Joe

I haven't been on it myself but have seen lot's of pictures and heard stories. It is a party run in the spring definitely but I think it has mellowed a bit over the years with a little more presence of the authorities. I have a brother in law that went down in a canoe made from Alpine cases and styrofoam one year and another year with milk cartons and styrofoam and actually only got his feet wet. There is picture of one of them at the entrance to the beer cooler at the convenience/beer store in Jacquet River. I am hoping to go on it this year. There was some info on it on the message board a while back and it might still be there.

I have run this river many times.. even in the summer but you do walk certain parts of it even with a kayak. Its a fun river in spring and is fairly easy run in a kayak other than a couple spots u need to watch for i.e - Burts corner Other than that you could cruise down it with a beer.

Do people mainly run this from Elgin downstream? I'm curious if anyone has tried to run down to the falls from further upriver? It does look fairly rocky but in the spring it might be a blast.

I used to live in Elgin and canoed this river over 50 times. It is a great little run with some good rips. You can start in March and I have canoed it in July after big rains. There is about a 1-2 km stretch through Beamans Hole which is the fastest part of the river. This is between the Mapleton and Glen Bridges. It is one of the best rivers in the south for canoeing. Do not go on the river run weekend in APril though. This is when the rednecks come out of the woodwork and and respect for the river or environment go out the window.
As for the upper reachs of the Pollett I have canoed from near the Route 114 down to Church'c Corner. This stretch is all above the Falls area. IT is an excellent run too but you must go on really high water. There is some fast rips in this area too. It is nice because you will not see another person in this stretch. Be sure to get out before the falls though!!!!!
Happy Paddling!!!!

I have scouted the part of the river from Gordon falls (I think - the falls underneath the bridge) down through the gorge and the garbage and especiaally the broken bottles was a disgrace. You wouldn't want to let your feet touch the bottom there. The water was beautiful clear but for not because then you could see all the glass and garbage in the water along with the crap up on the cliffs above. It would be a great spot to cliff jump if not for the broken glass. Some people suck. Beautiful river - I suppose a few bad river users and partiers.
Cheers

I agree that a few people need to leave the outdoors like it is....great. I think the falls are after the gorge but from the bridge through the gorge looks like a great run. I plan on doing this stretch in the spring.

Yeah, I hate to see trash on and in my river. I was debating whether to promote river protection associations like the Petitcodiac RiverKeepers in New Brunswick on my site, but decided it would be too much work.
I think whyayeman has the right approach, take out some garbage if you can as you run the river. Setting a good example may be the only way to prompt others to respect nature and haul out our own trash.
Ken
Sorry, looks like I hijacked this thread. I'll continue my rant in the Footprints board.

I am from Riverview and a fan of your site. I have a few sites of my own one of them being the Pollett River Run site. Actually it is considered the official site of the Pollett River Run. you can visit it by pollett.albert-county.com/It is alot of fun. I do have to update my site. I will do so after I talk to the firemen and get confirmation that they are putting on their famous breakfast. Not sure if you remember or not; I believe about 3 years ago you and one of your friends were going to come to the Pollett Run and his son got hurt at school. Hope such bad luck does not prevail this year. Thanks for providing such and intertaining site. Ray

I did the Pollett 2 years ago for the first time , it was a blast , a couple spots where you should be careful , the beer got the best of us , we went in twice , brrrrrrrrrrrr not swiming season for sure , a lot of people under estimate this river , inexperienced paddlers all drunked up , our party had to rescue a girl that tipped over and she got caught on a branch with her head under water , this was within the first 10 minutes of the day , (young girl drunk at 8 am) , gave us a wake up call for sure , but overall a good time , we missed it last year we paddled the Scoudouc River instead , this year we will be at the Pollett for sure , it's allmost time to take the gear out .

I posted this in another thread, but I'm new here and don't no any better, so does anyone know if there's a place relatively close to the Pollet where one can rent a canoe?
I own one but it's up North waiting for the Kedgwick and Restiouche to thaw.
