Anyone else think it is time for this? It would help with the planning for trips with kids- Spednic could use it especially during peak times.

Are we talking about the campground that is reserved for folks who live with in 25 miles of it? Tourist attractions actually attract more tourists when you leave room for them?

I have not tried to camp in the main campground this summer, but I was told that there are around 8 seasonal sites there now, despite the website saying 4. DNR was not aware of this according to their liaison. I was surprised by the number of docks along the lakefront now. There were fireworks in the park, generators, radios blasting. No wonder the lake sites were so busy. I tried to pay for parking but there was no one there- tried on the way in and the way out. They are going to need more lake sites or people are going to be hacking out their own.

I had no problem booking a site at the campground a few years ago shortly after they were open for later in the summer. Way more then 8 sites there!

A few years ago, there were only a few seasonal sites (was 2, then 4). This is the most they have ever had. I also could have stayed in the parking lot tent sites or the others down by the seasonal trailers, the park was not full. They have taken some of the best sites and made them seasonal. For the lake sites, they cannot be reserved. Big Island, Todd's Island, etc. You have to paddle there and take your chances. Same as the St. Croix River. Now that I have kids, it would be nice to know beforehand if a site was available before heading in that direction. Still a great canoe park and maybe they need the $$? But they could also make $$ from the other sites which are free right now.

As far as crowds are concerned, frankly I'm surprised at the few amount of people out on the water. This could be a direct result of the limited number of sites... Big Island id always occupied, but is it large enough for more than one group? Lower Todd's is certainly big enough for a few groups if you are in a jam but for me like most of us we don't like impeding on a site when already taken... We paid for parking one year, don't believe it is enforced anymore, if it ever was.
