Would I be crazy to run the southwest Miramichi this weekend from juniper to boisetown in 6 open boats with some experienced and some semi-experienced operators? It will most likely be above 3M on the Blackville gauge. It is at 3.7 this morning. Thanks in advance.

water will be fast, if someone loses a boat you wont see it for a while or ever. on the plus side if your gear is divided so that no one boat has all the food etc. then losing a boat wont b as bad.that being said if you lose a few boats or gear than this might make for a crappy trip, most of the rocks will b covered at this height but there will b some spots with some large waves. avoiding those waves and or pulling out before them too scout is a lot harder for those on the trip that might b not as experienced with the water being this pushy.
Good call. The Chi is at 3.8 and dropping this morning. I had friends that hit it near this level years ago and lost their canoes and gear. One nearly drowned by McKiels trying to get to shore. They eventually got their canoe and gear back but not without significant effort and luck. They also enjoyed a 6hr walk out before being picked up by a random truck on the Irving roads.
My crew and I are planning a June 1st run this year.
