Got a chance to "test" my new wetsuit on the south branch of the Rusagonis. Great run. We had some problems with a fallen tree not far from the put-in but after that the stream was clear. Mitchell got some good video of me dumping on the ledges. Held on to my paddle though. The water wasn't that cold eh Kevin?

We did the South Branch Rusagonis today (April 22) after doing the Tay Creek yesterday. We brought all our gear to sleep out Sat night, but ran the Tay faster than we expected (as usual) so went home. Beats sleeping in -3 weather. Brett and I tend to forget to pull over when we're canoeing solo. On the South Rusagonis today, everything was great, water levels are on their way down, but just enough for a good time. Anyhow, we had to push over the beaver dam near putin up on OLeary road and after that was a nice run. Brett ran the ledges with barely a trickle of water entering his Appalachian. I, on the other hand, wasn't as lucky. Somehow I got snagged on one of the ledges and when my canoe was turned sideways I got a LOT of water in the boat. Almost flipped 3 or 4 times because of all the water in my ancient Discovery 174 and things were not looking good as I went down final ledge with 1/2 my body in water while I'm still in my canoe!!! Luckily I was able to hit shore b4 I lost anything. The next few rips b4 bridge would have been IMPOSSIBLE with the water I had in my boat. We bailed and within minutes were on our way again... Looking forward to the pics from the dsiposable camera I brought.

Great little video Mitchell.... good for a laugh first thing Monday morning.
There better be some water left in May when I can get some time to get out and test my wetsuit too........
Good grab on the rope Dave.

Well, it's truly a small world. I was just talking to a co-worker, Danny Lawson about canoeing this past w/e and he was explaining how his buddy just did the Rusagonis...same as me. Anyways, Danny was describing some of the modifications you (Dave?) had made or are in process of making to your canoe. I'd like to see what you've done because I'm going to buy a new one soon. My 15 year old Disco174 is on it's last legs. It's to the point where I strategically place the cooler over the cracks just for peace of mind when paddling now. We'll have to hook up on a river sometime....P.S. I'm guilty of getting Danny addicted to geocaching...

I was with Dave, Mitch and Evan on Saturday morning. If anyone finds a pair of Bolle prescription sunglasses somewhere below that blowdown can you post it. I will check as the year progresses. It was a great run other than losing the d**n glasses.

Carm. Maybe you can join us on the St. Croix on the long weekend in May. We'll see how my disco 169 handles the falls with Danny sitting in the front ;-)

I'm interested but doubt I can make it. For some bizarre reason my wife thinks long weekends are supposed to be "family time." I have been able to bribe her off in the past. Just FYI, in my humble opinion, Danny should be in the stern of any canoe......:-)
