The water was great at 1.5 on the Blackville guage, lots of sunshine and few bugs. Saw Jackie O"Donnell, Danny Grattan, met some new folks. The salmon fishers are out, they have settled in at some of the campsites (Clearwater, etc.) The old put-in below Deersdale is unrecognizable, the trees around it blew down, were clearcut and re-planted. The campsites there are ruined, too bad. Perfect trip, I would have liked to take three days, not just two.

Was equally disappointed earlier this spring when I saw the senseless clear-cut right at the Half Moon put-in.
With today's mix of low lumber prices and high fuel prices, that brilliant business move likely scored someone a net loss.
It does grow back ... and the mess is forgotten as soon as you push off the shore and begin the paddle down river. :-)

Actually what appears to be a clear cut is the clean up of a massive blow down that happened sometime late last year. Some locals came by as we were putting in for our run and explained it to us. The house up on the hill still shows damaged siding from it. It was a great spot to camp out for those who like an early start on the river but Mother Nature can get nasty at times.
It would be illegal for anyone to cut that close to the river anyway.

I was down the river shortly after the "big Blow",, looked like a tornado ripped the trees apart,,we drove down to the bridge and put in there,, many trees had been blown down on the road and someone had several hours of work to get it open again,,I was just over there this past week and saw the massive cleanup,, on both sides of the river,,better to see it cleaned up than wasted,,,
