Hi - Just registered. Was here (or someplace similar) years ago looking for info on the Miramachi. I have a hunting cabin near Hartland, NB, so I get up there at least once a year - and every year we tell ourselves we should come up more frequently.
Planning on doing the St. Croix in late June. Wanted to see what people might have posted here to help me plan.
I'll be looking for some other likely rivers to paddle after we're off the St. Croix. Just day trips, close to the Hartland area. I did the Becaguimic (sorry, I didn't look up the proper spelling) a few years ago, so that's the only one I'm familiar with. Any suggestions?

Maybe the Presqu'ile. Presqu'ile River Post by Ken Corbett on Dec 1, 2009, 1:32pm
I drove on the TCH over the Presqu'ile River up by Centreville last weekend, and it looked pretty good. I'd like to paddle down the P.I. from the US border down to the Saint John. Can anyone help me out with some info?

A buddy of mine hails from up that way, he says people run the Big Presque Isle in the spring. There's a few old weirs above Hwy 550 (Long Settlement Rd.) and one below which looked impassable to me. If you put in somewhere downstream from Tracey Mills below the last dam I think you'd be good, I didn't scout put-ins as I was touring cattle grazing fields with my friend at the time. I don't think it's reasonable to run from the US border because of the old stone dams and their remnants put in by the farmers. I'd be happy to tag along with you when you go. Ken, a few of us ran this river a few years ago. We put in at a bridge where the 550 meets the 110 near Tracey Mills on the map. There is a small weir/dam just above this bridge with no obstructions the rest of the way to the Saint John.
It's a nice river to run with no real hazards to be concerned with. In high water (May) there are a few haystacks to make things entertaining but nothing too serious.
We did this before the new TCH was built, not sure if the new bridge causes any issues to be concerned with.
Take your time, I think we ran it in 2.5hrs with no real stops.

Meduxnekeag from Jackson Falls to SJ River right in town Woodstock. I'd say 4 or 5 hours
Monquart runs into town in Bath.
Can't remember the river that runs into Bath?
And if you want the Eel from Benton to Meductic. Full day

Becaguimec Presqu'ile Monquart Shiktehawk (for the adventurous)
When the water's high, you can get a very long run out of the Becaguimec
Shiktehawk empties into SJ river between Bath and Bristol. Lots of places to "put-in" ... but be aware:
a) it's fast, narrow, and you will encounter sweepers b) there is / was a dam at the Shiktehawk Bible Camp. Easy portage. c) there is a (un-runnable) gorge below the East Glassville bridge. Highest put-in woule likely be in West Glassville

Thanx for the input! I've done the Becaguimec, wished I had fished it - but barely got off before sunset without any fishing. Started near Howard Brook Road and went to the park just a couple hundred yards above the St. John. Shallow for quite a ways just above Cold Brook, then from there down it looks like it would be II+ or III in high water.
Done the Meduxnekeag when they ran a race 4-5 years ago. That was a nice run.
I keep eyeing the Pesqu'ile every time I've driven over it. Causually looked for access areas different times when driving around but found nothing worth writing down in my SLB (Stupid Little Book) I keep in the car. I'll check out that bridge where the 550 meets the 110 near Tracey Mills. Good info!
I'll look into the Monquart and Eel - not familiar with those. Probably pass on the Shiktehawk as I am becoming less adventurous as the years pass.
Thanks again for the responses.
