Hello, Just bought a new canoe and want to try it. Anyone know if the Pollett River is close to being open?

It is usually open by the first week in April. I am going to check it at all the bridges sometime this week.

Pollett is wide open, did it last weekend. water is lower than usual but with no forest to hold the rain back it will not stay that way for long.

Since no rivers are open around here, I was thinking of giving the Pollett a try this weekend. Anyone else planning to paddle this river saturday? Mitchell

We did the Pollet April 7 , 2007 , the water levels are low , the snow last weekend might help for next weekend , still we did it and only got caught in the rocks once .

I was down again tonight after supper. The water is as high as I have ever seen it. If it stays this way all week a lot of rafters are going to get eaten alive on Saturday.
Also there is a log blocking the left side of Coleman Rock so stay on the right side there for the next little while. It was way to high and fast to try and remove it.

I was down again May 5th. Oceans of garbage, destroyed rafts, abandoned barrels, and a rowboat. Some responsible people have already started the clean up.

I've heard a couple of people mention this river is open now. Has anyone ran it yet this year? Can someone give me some rough directions on the put-in and takeout? I assume this is just an afternoon paddle. If the water is in good shape, and it turns out to be nice saturday, I may give this a try if I can find someone else interested.

I'm in Dave. The river runners club from moncton ran it a couple weeks back. I will get a hold of them and find out the best put in and take out areas.

Update on the Pollet as of today.:
Noel has told me the water is not high enough to run right now. He is going to get in touch with me on thursday to see if things have changed.

Hey Mitchell,
What's the word, is it runnable?
I've tracked down a canoe that I can borrow!!! So, depending on water level and weather my friend and I would be up for the trip.
It was great meeting you at the UNB pool tuesday - wow, what a great bunch of people (and cool kayaks also!)
Cheers, Bones

I'm wondering how much the water may have gone up this past week. If no one is interested this weekend, looks like we have a warm week coming up... perhaps next weekend will have levels to our liking. Regardless of the possibility to paddle the Pollet or not... I'm gonna try to get down there this weekend and drive over all the bridges.
Has anyone taken a look at the Magaguadavic? from looking at the hydrometric data.... it doesn't appear to be at its lowest ever... not that I have any previous experience with this particular river.

Bones,
I don't think it is runnable. Maybe next weekend. It was nice meeting you at the Kayak club on Tuesday also. They are really nice people, especially allowing me to join with a canoe this winter. It certainly is a neat feeling being able to roll a canoe.
If your schedule allows, you and Lana should stop into the meeting for the canoe club at the Small Craft Aquatic Center on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
