Put-In: Half Moon (May 19 @ 4pm)
Take-Out: Porter Cove (May 21 @ 4pm)
Water Level Reading: 1.8 @ Blackville
Our group of five started at Half Moon late on Saturday afternoon for an easy sail down to Lake Brook. After 90 minutes of lazy paddling, we were setting up tents on the inside of the sharp turn in the river. We chose the site on river-left because of the nice view down river and the breeze blowing through the site.
We hit the river on Sunday at 9am. Four hours of fun paddling through the rips and rapids put us at the infamous Burnt Hill. We scouted for 20 minutes and watched boats (all successful but one!) run the course. All 3 boats in our floatilla made the run without taking on even a cup of water.
The little drop on river-right, just below the main Burnt Hill, gave everyone a surprise thrill. My Disco 169 scooped up at least 3 gallons on that one! :-)
We stopped for lunch on the long grassy arm that reaches below Burnt Hill.
4.5 hours later we arrived at Trout Brook (after the obligatory inspection of Falls Brook Falls). In total, the trip from Lake Brook to Trout Brook required about 9.5 hours of casual paddling.
We hiked up to Trout Brook Falls on Monday morning and, after a few oooohs and aaaahs, we started paddling by 10am. A strong headwind most of the day resulted in a 6 hours trip from Trout Brook to Porter's Cove.
The weather was perfect.
The water was perfect.
We had everything we needed (and more).
Nobody got hurt and everyone had an amazing time.
It was, definitely, a "Great" weekend.
