Cool and rainy day but the water level (18.5 at Durham Bridge) seemed perfect to get some friends on the river.
We packed a few sandwiches and beverages and headed for Giants Glen (up river from Stanley). Put in the river at around 11am and pulled the boats out of the water in Taymouth at around 3:30pm.
Most folks in our group were relatively new to the canoe and they felt that the quick water and mild rock gardens were a lot of fun ... never felt threatened and often were "hoping for more".
We took a "short cut" on river-right between Nashwaak Bridge and Taymouth. It's a narrow little overflow route that was practically un-runable ... but just barely. We all enjoyed the twisty routes and clear shallow pools.
Water level on the Nashwaak is dropping fast
