Rob and Joel and I decided since we had such a large rain on Sunday that it may be worthwhile trying putting in at Estey's Bridge. The water level was around .46 and about 11/2 inches below the concrete at the base of the bridge. It was a great run with little scraping except for when I wasn't paying attention. Just above the take out at the highway Joel spotted a baby beaver which we watched for a while. It didn't seem to be overly afraid of us and Joel managed to pat it as it passed within about a foot of his kayak. Overall a great trip in three kayaks. Met three others in canoes who also had a good trip with no issues with rocks or sweepers. Looks like .4 could be manageable with .5 being ideal.

Had a nice paddle on the Nashwaaksis on July 25. Water level was about .4, about 1.5" or 2" below the bridge footing, and 6" or so higher when I arrived at the Royal Road Park. The stream is blocked in a couple spots, the first just below the radio towers. There is a tree down, with a channel on river right, just below that a second tree is down across the stream. I pulled the canoe through the grass on the right side. Several minutes later, a second tree is down. You may be able to get under it on river right, but I decided to walk around it on the left.
Was a good paddle, following an eagle and a couple of herons along the way.

We ran it at 7pm last night, July 25th. By this time the level was 3" over the footing at Estey's Bridge. Great run, 4 kayaks. 2 guys had a little trouble where the stream splits into 3 and the main channel narrows to about 12-15ft wide of faster water with a sweeper blocking most of the stream and only a narrow passage on the left. I got spun around when I grounded on the left and the next two guys chose to crash into the tree instead of me and flipped. I told them next time, just ram into my boat. For any novices comtemplating this run, it gets easier as it gets lower and summer air & water temperatures are much more forgiving of a spill than spring, so get your initial runs in now. My first run was with Mitchell in April 2009 at 1.0 and the stream was a cold monster that day!
