Hello - I'm new to this board - some great info here about NB rivers.
I have been canoeing for 20 years and thought I knew something until I took a tandem whitewater course last year on the Nepi with Ben Leblanc and Andre Roy instructing. Boy did my eyes get opened quick - I knew practically nothing! The course was fantastic - all those years and I had not intuitively learned how sidewash/angles can be used to
control descent; rather than trying to overpower the current, it can be harnessed to assist in manoeuvres (sideslip, ferries, etc). My wife and kids (9 & 11 yrs ) took the course and although it was more intense than I had imagined ( running C2 & C3 water rt above Indian Falls ) it was a wonderful family experience. After the course I got my hands on Bill Mason's Path of the Paddle which covers all the canoe essentials.
I live in Dieppe and do mostly rivers around Moncton:
Bouctouche,Cocagne, Little River, Pollett, etc...
Good rains in the last week have filled most of the local rivers up to Spring thaw status but that will be short lived . If anyone is local in the area and is looking for a 2nd shuttle car, look me up.
utube of dec10 run on the Little River in Albert County:

and a sail kit I added to my canoes so I could use them in the summer: picasaweb.google.com/amelanso/Canoe_sailing#
v1 was with 1 boat but was always having to shift weight around to prevent the canoe from capsize. v2 uses 2 boats and is much more stable. V3 has a new carbon fiber mast and real sail taken from a windsurfer. A fun way to enjoy the summer - not used in open water - only in small lakes and protected bays...
Cheers all!
