I had a great kayak run down the Cocagne River yesterday with all the rain we had this past weekend.
The stretch from Poirier Office Rd. to Highway 115 is the best part and only takes 45 - 60 minutes when the water is high, so it's a good after work trip for anyone near Moncton.

We had a beautiful run, down the Cocagne River, We kayak from McLaughlin road to a mile passed route 115. Water levels was good and high, because of the good amount of rain we received. We have done this river for a number of years ,but it was my first time in fall and it was well Worth while. It took us about 2-3 hours floating time, with a average speed of 8 to 10km an hour we got to end too quickly. Hope to see you on the river some day! Steph

I tried this river out today. Looks like a great spot, but unfortunately I had to turn around after a little while. The water was too low and I had to get out and walk most of the way. Anyone know of any rivers in the Moncton area that are deep enough in the summer to paddle?

rene,
There are gauges on a few rivers around Moncton, but the streams are small, and the data on the gauges means nothing without a reference point for deep-water navigability.
You might try the Kennebecasis after a rain. I know nothing about it, tho.... Some folks have paddled the Scoudouc, and also the North River, and the Canaan off Route 126. I've heard second-hand stories about them. But yeah, you'll need rain, and likely lots of it in the summer. You may have to bush-whack a bit.

Hi, yes the Cocagne river is nice but not at this time of the year.We would need a whole lot of rain to bring the water level to the runnable height and even then it will only last a few days.I'm sorry to say that all the rivers in the Moncton area have the same faith and for the most part, are only runnable at the spring run offs. if we do get some good amount of rain and your interested in running them feel free to check with me on the water level, i cross path on this river daily.
