Hi All
Does anyone know where to get a wood canvas restored ? I am looking at a 18' v stern Chestnut Freighter(I think it's a Freighter). It needs new canvas, inside & outside gunwales and deck. I am wondering how much it would cost to have it restored. All the ribs and planks are OK.
Jamie,,, I think I bought your restored Chestnut 15' Chum. I got it at an auction in lower St Mary's a month or so ago.
Thanks
Kim

Great Spirit Canoes in Oromocto will do this for $50 per foot

The Chum was my handy work. Far from perfect, repaired not restored. Before you sink $1500 into an ugly Freighter you may want to consider buying my Ogilvy instead . If you do buy the Freighter I'd also recommend taking it to Great Spirit, Steve certainly knows his stuff. Jamie

Thanks for the information
I was talking to the previous owner of Chestnut, George Birch, he is pretty sure it is a 18' V stern Prospector and not a Freighter. George said they had not built Freighters in many many years. I'm going to take George so he can have a look at it. He does not think it would be worth much. They did not sell many V stern Prospectors, they sold mainly Oglvy's. Oglvy's were built much more robust than the Prospectors.

I saw in Kijiji a guy by the name of Ryan that does wood canvas repairs including re-canvasing. He is quite alot cheaper than Great Spirit. He said he did a 1935 Old Town for himself and has done others and sold them. Anyone know anything about his work ?
He is in Woodstock
Thanks
